For the recent years, the development of applications for mobile operating systems has been significantly improved and changed. Talented programmers are constantly working on new approaches aimed at product’s growth. In this article, we’ll tell you about one of them – Progressive Web Apps (PWA).

In 2015, Google Company announced the creation of Progressive Web Apps, the new technologies. However, this idea was accepted quite skin-deep. But these days, PWA is becoming more and more popular.

Let’s figure out: What is PWA?

PWA is the product of the joint evolution of the mobile site and the native application. Imagine that your website interacts with a user as an application. So, the user can open it from any gadget, get notifications and work with it (even without the Internet connection). Therefore, be aware: perhaps PWA is your golden ticket to SEO-promotion of the future.

PWA is easily added to the main smartphone screen. It is an ordinary icon looking a picture with a link to a web application opened via a browser. Therefore, the user may run the app anytime without installing it from a market, so it doesn’t need extra phone memory.

What is required?

  • Progressive – be available to any user, regardless of browser choice.
  • Responsive – can be opened on any device: desktop, mobile, tablet, etc.
  • Connectivity independent – be available with low-quality networks or offline.
  • App-like — an imitation of an ordinary app.
  • Fresh – PWA must monitor the automatic update process through the Service Worker API.
  • Safe – prevention of information leakage.
  • Discoverable – PWA are identified as applications.
  • Re-engageable – special functions monitor the user’s activity and motivate them to open the app again (for example, push notifications).
  • Linkable – you do not need to install it from the market.

Who needs PWA?

Anyone who takes part in creation, support or development of a website or web application can be interested in PWA. It will help to increase the product success and improve conversion. Ease of use and accessibility will attract many users.

In fact, developing of such application can be several times cheaper and faster than the native one, which opens a lot of new opportunities even for small companies.
